International Cooperation within University Alliances and Networks

CELSA was founded in April 2016 by 7 old and famous universities in 4 innovative European cities:

  • Budapest (Hungary)
    • Budapest University of Technology and Economics
    • Semmelweis University
    • Eötvös Loránd University
  • Leuven (Belgium)
    • Katholieke Universiteit Leuven
  • Ljubljana (Slovenia)
    • University of Ljubljana
  • Prague (Czech Republic)

In 2017 the University of Tartu (Estonia) joined the CELSA-network, expanding the Network to the North. In 2019, two Polish universities joined the network: the University of Warsaw and Jagiellonian University (Krakow).

The Alliance aims at promoting collaboration between its members.

CELSA intends to jointly organize training courses, exchange practice in common issues such as peer-reviewing, education evaluation, research assessments, open science, knowledge transfer, and in particular setup collaborative projects for research programs like Horizon Europe, and education programs like Erasmus+.

CENTRAL (Central European Network for Teaching and Research in Academic Liaison) is a vivid partnership between five renowned Central European universities, all located in the capitals of their home countries: Berlin (Humboldt Universität zu Berlin), Budapest (Eötvös Loránd University), Vienna (Universität Wien), and Warsaw (University of Warsaw) Prague (Charles University – contact: Centre for Strategic Partnerships).

Under the CENTRAL umbrella, diverse research and outreach activities take place, in all fields. We provide a platform for scientific discussion and exchange.

Combining our efforts, we make the academic discourse of the CEE region more visible, within Europe, and beyond.

The 4EU+ European University Alliance brings together seven comprehensive, research-intensive, public universities from four regions of Europe: Heidelberg Universität, Sorbonne Université, University of Copenhagen, Université de Genève, Università degli Studi di Milano, University of Warsaw and Charles University. Its mission is to strengthen the European vision of deepened cooperation and mutual enrichment by developing a new quality of cooperation in teaching, education, research and administration, leading to the creation of a truly integrated European University System.
