Support for Ukraine

March 2, 2022

The management of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University, welcomes Charles University's decision to suspend inter-university cooperation agreements with Russian universities as of March 1, 2022 and, in accordance with this measure, suspends the corresponding inter-faculty agreements as of March 2, 2022.

Suspension of these contracts and relationships is not their termination. We firmly believe that cooperation with Russian scientific and pedagogical institutions will be resumed as soon as the situation allows. However, a necessary precondition for this is an unconditional end of the aggression against Ukraine by Putin’s regime.

At the same time, we also emphasize that we reject any acts that would be based on the principles of collective guilt, and we fully support the statement of the Dean of the MFF UK from February 25, 2022.

We support the proclamation of Ukrainian mathematicians. We also welcome the initiative of the Czech Academy of Sciences, GACR, the Neuron Endowment Fund and IOCB Tech and other institutions to support Ukrainian scientists and students. In particular, we also welcome and admire the brave attitudes of Russian colleagues who are protesting against the events in Ukraine. It is above all the open letter from Russian mathematicians to President Putin, an open letter from scientific journalists, and proclamation of students and employees of Lomonosov University.
