Documents required for the commencement of the procedure

  1. All documents submitted by the applicant must be signed with the applicant’s original signature or certified electronic signature and include the date [except for diplomas and documents proving the completion of higher education and the research and academic degrees awarded, confirmation of the applicant’s employer, habilitation dissertation in the case of the procedure for the granting of associate professorship (habilitation procedure), and letters of recommendation in the case of the procedure for the granting of full professorship]. 2. A list of the required documents, including further instructions and procedures provided by the Faculty, is described in detail in the Guidelines of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of Charles University on the Procedure for the Granting of Associate Professorship and the Guidelines of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of Charles University on the Procedure for the Granting of Full Professorship. They are available on the MFF UK website, Research and International Affairs Department, under Academic appointments, links Habilitation Procedures or Procedures for the Appointment of a Professor.

  1. Associate professor profile: An associate professor performs activities in science and in teaching and the education of students which are comparable on an international level and actively serves the academic community.

Research: An applicant for associate professorship has a clearly defined research programme. The applicant is recognised on an international level, which he demonstrates in the manner typical for the given field and which can be proven by important personalities in the academic field. The metrics applied with regard to the given field include, for example, (co-)authorship of high-quality, original, and adequately cited publications published in international journals with an impact factor or in proceedings from major conferences, significant contribution to the creation of peer-reviewed artefacts1, lectures at internationally recognised conferences, etc. The authorship of review articles or chapters in scholarly monographs is considered an advantage. The applicant has experience with grant applications with significant national and international agencies and should be a successful researcher in grant competitions.

Teaching: The applicant has experience giving lectures independently and should receive a positive evaluation from students. He or she supervises students in bachelor’s and master’s study programmes; experience with supervising doctoral student is appreciated.

The applicant contributes to the “third mission” of the University, which includes articles and lectures aimed at popularising science, public events, etc.

Research: An applicant for full professorship has a comprehensive research programme with results that have been recognised on an international level, which can be proved by important personalities in the given academic field. He or she is the leading figure of the respective department. The applicant has published a number of widely cited publications consistent in terms of quality and the relevance of the topics studied. He or she is invited to hold important positions in the given community, for example, an invited speaker, plenary speaker, or a member of the programme or steering committee of major international conferences. The applicant’s position in the field can be also proven by invited review articles or monographs. He or she represents the respective department in major national or international grant projects.

Teaching: The applicant determines the form of the instruction and guarantees the quality thereof in the given field. He or she has established their own scientific school and the applicant’s former undergraduate and doctoral students are expected to be successful both in academia and beyond.

Service: The applicant is an important figure serving the international academic community (for example, editor of an academic journal, organiser, or other important function in the management of a major conference, etc.). He or she contributes significantly to the functioning of the respective department and mentors less experienced colleagues. The applicant contributes to the “third mission” of the University, which includes articles and lectures aimed at popularising science, public events, etc.
