Assessment of university degrees and studies for applicants to Master's and Doctoral studies

The following documents may be used to prove compliance with the requirement of successful completion of study in a Bachelor's or Master's degree programme at a foreign high education institution:

(a) A document proving general recognition of foreign higher education in the Czech Republic (general nostrification)

The applicant shall submit an authenticated copy of the document on general recognition of foreign higher education in the Czech Republic obtained pursuant to Sections 89 and 90 of the Higher Education Act or under previous legislation. This document is issued by public universities, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, or the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Defence.

(b) A document concerning foreign higher education, which is equivalent in the Czech Republic without any further administrative procedures

This is a foreign document on foreign higher education, which certifies the completion of a degree programme in Slovakia (except for diplomas issued by foreign branches of Slovak universities after March 28, 2015, in accordance with letter c)), in Poland, Hungary and Slovenia (only Master's degree diplomas; Bachelor´s degree diplomas from Slovenia refer to the procedure under letter c)).

The applicant will submit:

  • An authenticated copy of a diploma, certificate or equivalent document (for example, a certificate of completion of study) issued by a foreign higher education institution;
  • An original or authenticated copy of diploma supplement or a transcript of examinations passed;
  • In the case of a certificate of higher education issued by a Slovak higher education institution after 28 March 2015, a certificate issued by a foreign higher education institution stating the country where the applicant completed the study program.

As part of the admission procedure, faculties may assess the fulfilment of the condition of regular completion of studies in a Bachelor's or Master's degree programme pursuant to Section 48 (5) of the Higher Education Act, for applicants who have obtained a higher education degree in a programme at a foreign higher education institution.

The applicant will submit:

  • Completed form [ PDF | RTF | DOCX ]
  • An authenticated copy of the diploma, certificate or equivalent document (for example, a certificate of completion of study) issued by a foreign higher education institution.
  • An original or an authenticated copy of diploma supplement or a transcript of examinations passed.

If necessary, the faculty will ask the applicant to submit the following documents:

  • Additional information on the content and scope of foreign higher education;
  • A statement issued by the relevant foreign authority confirming that the foreign university in question is authorized to offer higher education in the aforementioned foreign state (a statement on accreditation).

Documents which are not originally issued in the Czech, English or Slovak language must be officially translated into the Czech or English language.

Based on the country in which the certificate on the secondary education was issued.
Forms of verification by country of acquisition

Other background material If the applicant's situation so requires, he/she shall also submit the following documents:

  1. A power of attorney for the purposes of proving compliance with the requirement for admission under section 48 (4) and (5) of the Higher Education Act;
  2. If the applicant’s name changes, an authenticated copy of a document proving such a change (e.g., a marriage certificate);
  3. An authenticated copy of the decision to award international protection, if the assessment is requested by a person listed in section 90 (4) of the Higher Education Act and if this person wishes to use the possibility of substituting a document with an affirmation.
