Florida AI Research Society Honours Prof. Barták
Professor Roman Barták from the Department of Theoretical Computer Science and Mathematical Logic received The Douglas D. Dankel II Award last week in Florida. He is the first European recipient of this award, which is presented annually by the Florida Artificial Intelligence Research Society.
The Florida Artificial Intelligence Research Society (FLAIRS) was founded in 1987 to support and advance artificial intelligence in the state of Florida. The society organizes an annual conference of the same name, which has been open to experts from around the world since 1990.
Professor Barták became a member of FLAIRS in 2004. He participated in organizing several of its conferences in the past (as chairman in 2022), and he is also a regular reviewer for FLAIRS. “Roman’s willingness to contribute to the well-being of FLAIRS, his hard work regarding our conferences, and his ongoing involvement in friendly interactions within FLAIRS make him a worthy recipient of the DDD II Award,” writes the Florida AI Research Society on its website.
The leading Czech expert in artificial intelligence received the award as the very first European representative. In addition to FLAIRS, Prof. Barták is a member of several other professional organizations (such as the international ACM for computing and the American AAAI, which brings together AI experts) and a recipient of multiple honours (including EUR AI Fellow and the AI Award for promoting the visibility of the Czech Republic in the AI field). He also coordinates several research projects within the Czech Republic and across Europe. Among others, he serves as the Czech coordinator of the international PEER project focused on developing advanced AI assistants.
