Chess Player Kriebel a World University Champion

September 21, 2018

The 22 year old student of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University, achieved the greatest success of his life when he got 6.5 points out of 9 games in Aracaju, Brazil and in the last round he beat the favoured Daniel Sadzikowski from Poland.

Tadeáš Kriebel had a great start and kept his leading position till the very end of the competition. “The last two rounds were crucial, I made a terrible mistake in the semi-final game with Wieczorek from Poland and then for the final game I got another Pole Sadzikowski who made it to the leading group all the way from the bottom. Luckily, I managed to calm my nerves and cool my head down over the night and I finally beat him in a long manoeuvring game using my black men. I must admit that my hand trembled close to the end of the game,” said Kriebel for the website of the Czech Chess Federation.
