Horizon Europe

Horizon Europe is the European Union’s ninth Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, launched for the seven-year period 2021–2027. It supports joint European research and innovation efforts with a total budget of €95.5 billion—an increase of 30% compared to the previous Framework Programme, Horizon 2020.

The Horizon Europe Programme is structured into three main pillars:

  • Pillar I: Excellent Science

  • Pillar II: Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness

  • Pillar III: Innovative Europe

In addition, the programme includes a horizontal priority area: Widening Participation and Strengthening the European Research Area.

A special part of Horizon Europe is the European Defence Fund (EDF), and separate funding is allocated to activities under Euratom. The largest share of the Horizon Europe budget is dedicated to addressing global challenges.

The National Information Centre for European Research in the Czech Republic is the Technology Centre Prague. Throughout the year, it organizes a variety of seminars on the individual programmes under the Horizon Europe umbrella and also offers consultations for planned grant applications. More information is available on the web TC Prague.

At the Charles University Rectorate, the agenda of European research programmes is coordinated by the Evropean center.
