Origin Multi-License | Faculty of Mathematics and Physics

Program OriginPro from the OriginLab company is available at our faculty. The School of Physics currently maintains annual support. We have it now until August 30 2025. This provides us, among other things, the program versions released until the end of our support. From August 31 2020, i.e. since version 9.7–2020b, we use floating licenses verified via our Troja server.

Installation procedure:

Download the OriginPro2025 installation file. You need to log in via SIS.
Expand the whole .zip package preferably into a new directory. Downloaded .zip package can now be deleted.
In the directory with unpacked files, run Setup.exe. Required data, i.e. our serial number, license server pluto.troja.mff.cuni.cz and port number 27001, are pre-filled. Just confirm them and, if you wish, edit your name.
After the installation is finished, you can also delete the directory with the unpacked installation files.

Notes:

The license status of the running Origin is visible via the Help menu → "Active License…” or Help → About → button License.
Origin with a floating license needs a connection to the license server to run. If we have a connection, it supports for a limited time so-called „borrowing license“, menu Help → „Active License…“ → Borrow. It then works, for the time of the borrowing, without access to the license server.
Even on the fast network Origin sometimes starts faster than the license is verified and unfortunately the Registration dialog is displayed. However, it is possible to close the dialog. In the meantime, the licence is verified, and the dialogue no longer bothers.
The Serial number can be changed from the Origin installer which is available from Start menu in the Origin folder as „Repair or Uninstall Origin 202X“ or via Settings → Installed apps. There is Modify/Repair option in the installer.
Last 32 bit version according to this information was 2019b. We have it here. There can really still be chosen 32 or 64 bit version to install.
Communication with the license server also takes place via port 54911. Some networks may this port or the above mentioned port block. Origin then reports that it cannot contact the FLEXlm server. This can be diagnosed with cmd /k telnet pluto.troja.mff.cuni.cz 27001 or cmd /k telnet pluto.troja.mff.cuni.cz 54911 commands. They should not report Connecting… and then error.
