Precision predictions for decays of light mesons: radiative corrections, form factors, and rare decay modes potentially sensitive to physics beyond the Standard Model.

Principal investigator of the Charles University PRIMUS project 26/SCI/022 Radiative corrections and form factors in decays of light mesons.

Research focus

I work on the low-energy regime of the Standard Model, where hadrons rather than quarks and gluons are the relevant degrees of freedom and chiral perturbation theory provides the systematic description. Most of my results are theoretical input that allows experiments to reach higher precision and to be compared consistently with theory: branching ratios, differential distributions, and the electromagnetic transition form factors that enter them.

A recurring theme is radiative corrections: QED effects that no experiment can switch off and that typically shift measured rates and spectra at the percent level. I have computed them for the Dalitz decays of the π0, η, η′ and Σ0; the PRIMUS project extends this programme to rare kaon decays. Alongside the analytic work, I develop Monte Carlo tools that allow the corrections to be applied directly in experimental analyses.

Further work includes multi-meson amplitudes in chiral perturbation theory (the six-pion amplitude and the three-particle K-matrix entering finite-volume analyses in lattice QCD) and lepton-flavour violation in τ decays.

I am a member of the NA62 Collaboration at CERN, where kaon decays are measured precisely enough to make this kind of theoretical input necessary. Rare and forbidden decays (lepton-flavour-violating modes, decays into hidden-sector particles, four-lepton final states) are among the most sensitive probes of physics beyond the Standard Model.
