the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of Charles University
announces opening of the following scientific postdoc positions
with submission deadline November 8, 2021

School of Physics

Postdoc position at the Institute of Theoretical Physics in the field of Time-Resolved Photoelectron Spectroscopy.
ID of the position: 202111-PD-UTF-FS
Qualification and other requirements: The project aims to use time-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy to study ultrafast electronic and nuclear dynamics in molecules. We will use novel probing techniques to gain unprecedented insight into quantum molecular dynamics. This work will be done as part of an international collaboration including experiments (Dr. Russell Minns, University of Southampton) and state of art theory of quantum dynamics (Dr. Adam Kirrander, University of Edinburgh).
You will use and develop the molecular R-matrix codes to perform modeling of the photoionization dynamics and work on the integration of this data into simulations of nuclear dynamics. This will require using advanced electronic structure methods and modeling of continuum dynamics at various levels of approximation. This is an exciting opportunity to gain experience in working with all aspects of the problem from electronic to nuclear dynamics and on an interpretation of the experimental data.
The expertise of the researcher should be close to one of the topics: the quantum theory of particle collisions and perturbative photoionization, computations of molecular electronic spectra using quantum chemistry packages (e.g. Molpro, Gaussian), non-adiabatic dynamics of molecular nuclear dynamics, high-performance computing, programming in Fortran and knowledge of scripting languages (Perl, Bash).
A Ph.D. or equivalent degree in the relevant field is required. A publishing activity in the field in impacted periodicals is required. Two letters of recommendation are to be sent to zdenek.masin@utf.mff.cuni.cz
Expected starting date: January 1, 2022, at the latest February 28, 2022

Postdoc position at the Institute of Theoretical Physics in the field of gravity and relativistic physics.
ID of the position: 202111-PD-UTF-GR
Qualification and other requirements: The expertise of the researcher should be close to one of the topics: mathematical general relativity, exact solutions of Einstein’s field equations and their interpretation, global structure of space-times, compact objects, black holes, gravitational waves, modified theories of gravity, theoretical cosmology, quantum effects in the presence of gravity, quantum gravity, and quantum cosmology. A Ph.D. or equivalent degree in the relevant field is required. A publishing activity in the field in impacted periodicals is required.
Expected starting date: January 1, 2022, at the latest February 28, 2022

COMMON REQUIREMENTS FOR POSTDOC POSITIONS

All applicants are required to have a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in the relevant field, achieved a maximum of eight years ago. This period does not include the period of maternity leave, parental leave, military service, periods of serious health complications, or periods of other similar legal long-term obstacles to work (e.g. time spent in long-term care for a family member/close person). Publication activity in the given field in periodicals recognized in the given field and further experience from stays at foreign workplaces are assumed.

Electronic applications, i.e., a scan of the signed cover letter accompanied by

  • Curriculum vitae
  • Proofs of education (PhD diploma or an equivalent certificate)
  • List of publications with overview of citations (by WoS)
  • Description of scientific experience
  • Research statement

should be sent to the email address konkurzy@mff.cuni.cz by November 8, 2021. The subject of this e-mail should contain the ID of the position.

The candidate should also arrange for two letters of recommendation to be emailed to the same address (and to the address possibly specified above). The subjects of these e-mails should also contain the ID of the position.
