The Department of Physics of Materials (DPM) is one of the fourteen institutes which belong to the “School of Physics” section of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic.
Our primary objective is a complex characterization of structural and functional materials, as well as the development of perspective materials for advanced applications. We focus on the relation between microstructure and thermo-mechanical properties of metals, alloys, intermetallics, composites, foams, and materials with ultrafine microstructures. A great effort is also devoted to complex investigation of physical aspects of plastic deformation and phase transitions.
The scientific teams at DPM combine knowledge, experience, and state-of-the-art analytical techniques in order to provide solutions to contemporary problems in materials science in the framework of numerous domestic and international collaborations.

DPM also participates in teaching in the Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral study programs and offers supervision of a variety of student theses (BSc., MSc., Ph.D) and projects. The integration of students and young scientists into the scientific and social life at DPM is of great importance.
