ERC grant on the research of the interaction between light and free electrons

ERC grant on ultrafast electron microscopy awarded to our division.

In 2023, the ERC grant awarded to Martin Kozák started. The project is focused on the research of the interaction of light with freely moving electrons in electron microscopes. As part of the grant, the scientific team will investigate whether it is possible to use shaped optical waves to manipulate with electron beams in free space. Further, new methods of time-resolved electron microscopy enabling imaging of optical near fields in the vicinity of nanostructures irradiated with coherent light will be developed. Thanks to the support of this grant we will build a new laboratory of ultrafast electron microscopy at KCHFO in 2023, which will be equipped with a state-of-the-art Verios 5 UC scanning electron microscope (Thermo Fischer Scientific) and a femtosecond laser system.
