For Students

If you are interested in quantum optics, ultrafast spectroscopy, or biophysics and would like to do your thesis or a summer project in our group, feel free to get in touch. We work on two new grant projects starting in 2026 — one focused on quantum sensing with diamond (PRIMUS), the other on light-driven energy conversion in biological systems (GAČR).

We also have an open topic within a Studentský fakultní grant (SFG):

Studentský fakultní grant

NV centers in diamond: build a quantum relaxometry microscope

Diamond nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers are remarkable quantum systems that retain coherence at room temperature and ambient pressure — no cryostats or vacuum required.

Stipends are available for students working within these projects.

Bachelor theses & summer projects

Students are welcome to join for a bachelor thesis or a shorter summer project. Depending on the topic, you will typically work with some combination of the following:

  • Hardware control — programming experimental sequences using Python and Arduino
  • Instrumentation — design and simulation of optical and microwave components
  • Measurement — sample preparation and ultrafast spectroscopy

If you'd like to see the lab first, just send an email and we'll arrange a visit.

Master & PhD theses

The following topics are available for the 2025/26 academic year.

Quantum sensing & metrology

Building a quantum micromagnetometer with NV centers in diamond

NV centers, relaxometry, confocal microscopy, optical pulses

Spin-polarization transfer from diamond NV centers to external liquids

Micro-NMR, polarization transfer, diamond surface chemistry
