Annual Award of the Bernard Bolzano Endowment Fund for the Best Scientific Work in Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science

The Annual Awards are granted by the Board of Trustees of the Bernard Bolzano Endowment Fund to the winners of a scientific competition which is run independently by three different schools – School of Mathematics, School of Physics, and School of Computer Science – based on recommendations of the individual School Boards. These, in their turn, base their decisions on reports and may request an extra report to be provided in disputed cases. Only one award is granted in each field.

Winners of the Annual Awards in each field are awarded a diploma and a financial prize of CZK 15.000. The Award Ceremony takes place during the FMP CU Scientific Council meeting (usually in March of the following year). Prize winners may be asked by the Fund to present the winning work at a suitable scientific forum.

Students, including PhD candidates, and FMP CU staff who will not exceed the age limit of 35 years in the year of the award, are eligible to enter the competition, as are teams whose members meet the above condition.

Peer-reviewed scientific papers that have been published or accepted for publication in a scientific journal or conference proceedings, as well as important software products, are accepted into the competition.

The main criterion in the evaluation of the submissions is their scientific quality. Each contestant or team may only enter the competition once in the given year. In the description of the work being entered into the contest, applicants must clearly specify their own contribution. Sets of thematically related works must be accompanied by a summary of their theses.

Entries with the relevant field clearly stated should be submitted to the competition organisers by 30 September of the year for which the awards have been announced. Applications must be accompanied by a copy of the work and its brief description (1 page maximum length).
