PREFACE

The three already traditional volumes of the WDS Proceedings you are just holding in your hands are composed of the contributions which have been presented during the 14th Annual Conference of Doctoral Students that was held in Prague, at Charles University, Faculty of Mathematics and Physics from June 7 to June 10, 2005.

You can read contributions of the students from our Faculty and Czech Universities as well as the papers submitted by students from other countries. All manuscripts were reviewed by two referees and, maybe, you would ask why. We believe that it helps students to learn how to prepare the written presentation of their results in a foreign language and how to respond the referees. They should take into account their comments and prepare a new submission including a letter to referees where they explain their reaction. This is a standard way of publication in scientific journals and we are offering an exercise that would help them in future. Since one of referees is a doctoral student, he/she can learn the preparation of a review. Moreover, the subject of the paper under review is often rather different from his/her field of research and thus the referees should learn new problems and another style of writhing. They can see that a good and comprehensive review is sometimes a very difficult task. Even now, one can see a different approach of student referees — some of them are very active and bring a lot of comments and suggestions, whereas others carry out a formal review only. Nevertheless, I hope that resulting Proceedings are traditionally of a good quality and you can find a lot of references to previous volumes in scientific journals.

Proceedings are divided into three volumes. Part I presents the contributions on Mathematics (23) and Computer Sciences (14, together 37 papers in this part). The contributions from the field of Physics of Plasmas and Ionized Media are the main topics of Part II (36 papers have been submitted from this symposium). Part III consists of contributions from all other symposia on Physics (44 papers). All manuscripts have been accepted for publication after minor, moderate, and maybe major revisions. I would like to thank the referees from different institutions who worked so hard to review the student's papers, and thus permitted the timely production of these volumes. Particular thanks are addressed to those students who carefully read the papers of their colleagues.
