Besides its participation in the above listed inter-university agreements, MFF has also entered into additional inter-faculty agreements on research cooperation and the exchange of Master and PhD students with Bielefeld University, Utrecht University, the University of Chernovtsy in Ukraine, the Faculty of Physics of the Belorusian State University in Minsk, the Japan Institute of Advanced Studies (JAIST) in Hokuriku, the National Institute of Material Science in Tsukuba, Centro di Ricerca Matematica Ennio de Giorgi, the Mechanical Engineering Faculty of the University of Zilina, Slovakia, and the Faculty of Science of the Matej Bel University in Banska Bystrica, Slovakia.
The scientists of MFF are currently involved in 56 projects within the framework of various programs of the EU, the National Science Foundation and NATO, as well as bilateral agreements on research cooperation with Austria, France, Germany, Greece, Italy and Japan. The full list of these projects can be found at http://www.mff.cuni.cz/fakulta/tiskoviny/ovzs/broz02.pdf.
Another very valuable contribution to international R&D activities by MFF is also represented by its participation in the international consortium "Seismic Waves in Complex 3-D Structures", which has supported fundamental research in the field of seismology at MFF during the period of 1998-2004. Similarly, a complex research on HgCd materials for IR detectors carried out at MFF was supported by the European Office of Aerospace Research and Development (EOARD).
Recently, the scientists of MFF cooperated in the preparation of 24 project proposals for 6FP, of which 7 were accepted for financial support.
Other forms of international cooperation
During the period of 1999–2003 the staff members of MFF received numerous invitations to deliver plenary lectures at prestigious international conferences and scientific meetings. Every year a number of MFF scientists are also invited to participate in organizing/scientific committees of international conferences. Other forms of involvement of MFF scientists in activities of the international scientific community include their memberships on editorial boards of international scientific journals, visiting professorships at foreign universities, and/or lecturing in PhD courses and Summer Schools organized by these universities. Detailed information concerning such activities can be found in MFF Annual Report series, see http://www.mff.cuni.cz/fakulta/tiskoviny/zpravy/vz2002.pdf, and in the series of brochures Research and International Cooperation at MFF, see http://www.mff.cuni.cz/fakulta/tiskoviny/ovzs/broz02.pdf (published in Czech only).
