Recognition of Examinations

If a student has passed an examination at Charles University, or at another institution of higher education in the Czech Republic or abroad, within the last 10 years (see Study and Examination Code of Charles University under article 6, section 17), the exam can be recognised by the Dean of the Faculty. In these cases students should apply in writing.

The application for recognition must be accompanied by the syllabus of English courses, including a statement about the content of the examination passed. This examination will be recognized if the content and the level is equivalent to that held at the MFF in bachelor studies.

In lieu of the written part of the English examination in bachelor studies, the following language examinations and certificates may be recognized:

  1. Language examinations in other universities and colleges in the Czech Republic with the result of 1–2, not older than 10 years;
  2. Language examinations in other universities and colleges abroad, not older than 10 years;
  3. State language examinations passed in the Czech Republic (General State Language Examination, Specialized State Language Examination for translators, Specialized State Language Examination for interpreters, not older than 10 years);
  4. Internationally recognized language certificates:
    1. Cambridge ESOL – CAE, CPE
    2. IELTS (with the result of 6.5 points or more)
    3. TOEFL (PBT – min. 550 and above, CBT – min. 213 and above, iBT – min. 79 and above)

In the case of other internationally recognized language examinations, students may apply for an assessment in the Department of Language Education.

However, students whose previous examinations have been recognized must sit for the written part of the examination in Professional – English Language of Mathematics (part four) gaining a minimum score of 70%. They must then take the oral part.

Originals or verified photocopies of the above mentioned certificates must be presented to the secretary Mrs. Hankeova (room V 133) at the Department of Language Education no later than 14 days before the examination. (Requirements for the oral part of the examination can be found under English Exam Requirements as of Academic Year 2011/2012).
